This section covers the 19th edition of the “Shenzhen in the Eyes of Local Painters” project with the theme of “Mountain·City | City·Sea”, sponsored by Shenzhen Artists Association, which, also the sponsor of the previous 18 editions, invites its members to make art revolving around the history, culture and natural environment of Shenzhen the special economic zone to show the world its rich scenery that consists of mountains, the sea and people.

陈湘波 Chen Xiangbo

A member of the Communist Party of China, Master of Arts and national first-class artist (senior second-class professor), Chen Xiangbo currently serves as the Party branch secretary and director of Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen.

He entered the Department of Traditional Chinese Painting at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts (GAFA) in Sept. 1982, and, after graduation, became a teacher at the Department of Fine Arts, Zhaoqing Teachers College in June 1986. In Sept. 1991, he started his pursuit of a master’s degree in traditional Chinese painting at GAFA and received it in June 1994, and, also in 1994, he went to Shenzhen for the preparation of the construction of Guan Shanyue Art Museum.

His past and current part-time academic posts include vice president of China Hue Art Association, deputy director of the Art Museums Committee of Chinese Museums Association, vice-chairman of Guangdong Artists Association, Master’s degree advisor at GAFA, vice-chairman of Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, chairman of Shenzhen Artists Association, initiator of Chen Xiangbo Art Foundation supported by Shenzhen Charity Federation (Shenzhen Project Care Foundation), and deputy to the 6th and 7th Shenzhen Municipal People’s Congress.

杨晓洋 Yang Xiaoyang

Born 1966 in Yushu, Jilin province, China, Yang Xiaoyang graduated from the Fine Arts School at Beijing Film Academy in 1988. He is a member of China Artists Association, a national first-class artist and a council member of Chinese Painting Institute and of Guangdong Artists Association, and currently serves as vice president of Shenzhen Public Culture and Art Creation Center (Shenzhen Fine Art Institute), vice chairman of Shenzhen Artists Association, secretary general of Urban Ink Art Institute at China National Academy of Painting and executive director of Chinese Painting Institute of Shenzhen. Yang organized or curated a number of major art exhibitions and art exchange events, including the International Ink Art Biennale of Shenzhen, and he served as a supervisor and reviewer for the first five editions of the National (Dafen) Youth and Middle-Aged Oil Painting Exhibition. His works were exhibited in many exhibitions in China and abroad and have won him awards as well as opportunities to visit foreign sister cities for exchanges as an artist from Shenzhen. His “new ink” painting has its distinctive style and is dominated by subjects such as “urban ink” and impressionist flowers and birds.

文祯非 Wen Zhenfei

Born in Qinghai, China, Wen Zhenfei is a Master of Fine Arts from Herzen University in Russia, a member of China Artists Association and a national first-class artist. Currently, he serves as vice-chairman of Shenzhen Artists Association, deputy secretary general of Beijing Academy of China Xieyi Oil Painting, director of both Chinese National Academy of Arts Shenzhen Institute of Creative Fine Arts and Shenzhen Vision Institute of Artistic Creation, a project review expert of China National Arts Fund, and a visiting professor at Zhaoqing University, the School of Art and Design at Shenzhen University and the School of Fine Arts at Jiangxi Normal University.

Wen Zhenfei held more than ten solo exhibitions in professional art museums including National Art Museum of China. His works were exhibited many times in national, provincial and municipal art exhibitions and even included in national core art journals of China. Some of his works have been collected by professional art museums, NAMOC included, collecting institutions and private collectors.

陈向兵 Chen Xiangbing

Born 1970 in Jiangxi Province, China, Chen Xiangbing is a Master of Fine Arts and a member of China Artists Association. Now he serves as vice-dean of the Division of Arts at Shenzhen University, dean of the Collage of Art & Design at the University and director of Shenzhen University Art Museum, vice-chairman of Shenzhen Artists Association.

His works were exhibited in over ten national exhibitions including the 11th and 12th National Exhibition of Fine Arts, the 4th National Youth Fine Arts Works Exhibition and the Fifth Beijing International Art Biennale. He has won over ten awards including Academy Award at the 2nd Asian Art Biennale, Excellent Work Award at the 1st and 2nd National Youth and Middle-Aged Oil Painting Exhibition, Gold Prize at the 12th Guangdong Art Festival, Silver Prize at the 13th Guangdong Art Festival.

He has published books including Another Side: History, Culture and Politics of Contemporary Chinese Art (Jilin People’s Press) and Art Scene: Visual Images and Narrative of Contemporary Shenzhen (Jiangxi Fine Arts Publishing House).

张闯 Zhang Chuang

Born 1967 in Baoding, Hebei Province, China, Zhang Chuang graduated from the Oil Painting Department of Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1990. In 2005, he began to attend the oil painting modeling class of tenured professor Alexander Claudy at Rome Fine Art Academy in Italy.

Currently, Zhang is a member of China Artists Association, a national first-class artist, a council member of Guangdong Artists Association, a contracted painter of both Guangdong Art Institute and Shenzhen Fine Art Institute, and also serves as vice chairman of Shenzhen Artists Association, director of the Children's Art Committee of Shenzhen Artists Association, vice chairman of Shenzhen Art Research Association, chairman of the Artists Association of Futian District, Shenzhen, visiting professor of Wang Xuezhong Art Research Institute at Tianjin University, special researcher of the Oil Painting and Sculpture Institute at Guangdong Provincial Research Institute of Culture and History, and director of Futian Art Museum in Shenzhen.

Zhang Chuang has been deeply influenced by Mr. Wang Xuezhong’s aesthetic thoughts. His works form a unique signature style of his own by combining Western painting techniques, the rhythms of Eastern aesthetics and his sensitive perception of contemporary elements. They were exhibited in many important professional art exhibitions in China and have attracted wide attention from the society.

郝强 Hao Qiang

Born 1968 in Heilongjiang Province, China, Hao Qiang graduated from the Printmaking Department at Harbin Normal University Fine Art College in 1995 and finished his graduate courses at the Printmaking Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2002. He’s now a member of China Artists Association and the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, a specially invited artist of Shenzhen CPPCC Academy of Calligraphy and Painting, a national second-class artist, and a council member of Guangdong Artists Association, and also serves as vice chairman of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Artist Union, academic advisor of Macao International Printmaking Arts Research Center, vice-chairman & secretary general of Shenzhen Artists Association.

He was appointed one of the judges of the 1st Guangzhou International Exlibris and Mini-Prints Biennial, National Exlibris and Mini-Prints Exhibition of Youth, the 1st Triennial of Chinese Industrial Art Prints and of the 2nd Macao Printmaking Triennial, and served as the mainland Chinese curator of Macao Printmaking Triennial and the Chinese curator of South Korean Invitational Exhibition of Contemporary Printmaking. His print works were exhibited in many national exhibitions including the 12th, 13th, 16th, 20th and 22nd National Printmaking Exhibition and the 9th National Exhibition of Fine Arts, and oil paintings in the 13th National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He was also hired by China Artists Association as a supervisor and reviewer of the Pilgrimage to Dunhuang National Exhibition of Fine Arts, Art in China National Fine Arts Exhibition, National (Dafen) Youth and Middle-Aged Oil Painting Exhibition, Dafen International Oil Painting Biennale, Shenzhen, Shenzhen International Watercolor Biennale, 2022 “Time · Portrait” Oil Painting Exhibition, etc.

His works have won him many awards from domestic and international exhibitions and have been collected by dozens of art museums and private collectors.

方晓龙 Fang Xiaolong

马顺先 Ma Shunxian

Born in December 1966, Ma Shunxian graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Henan University. 梁剑 Liang Jian

Born 1977 in Guangdong, China, Liang Jian graduated from the University of Kent in the UK with a master’s degree in art and design in 2004, and was recommended to attend the “Contemporary Art Seminar” in the British Museum during his days on campus. He completed his study in the 10th CFLAC (Visual Arts) Advanced Workshop for Chinese Young and Middle-Aged Talent in the Literary and Art Circles in 2016 and the 3rd term of the National Training Program for Art Museum Directors at Central Academy of Cultural Administration in 2018. He’s a member of China Artists Association and a council member of Guangdong Artists Association, and serves now as vice chairman of Shenzhen Artists Association and deputy director of Dafen Art Museum. His works were exhibited many times in art exhibitions in China and overseas, and many have been collected by professional art institutions and private collectors.

棣心 Di Xin

Liu, Xiangdong. Aka Di Xin, Xin Chen, He Yin Ju Shi. Born in Hengyang, Hunan Province. He currently lives and works in Shenzhen. Member of the China Artists Association. Member of the China Association for Promoting Democracy in Shenzhen.

His artistic approach focuses on the return to a development concept that emphasizes the overall survival and ecology of contemporary civilization. Ontologically, his artistic language originates from the “essence” and primarily adopts “figurative realism” as its main expressive form. It inherits and promotes the tradition of painting, integrating the ancient and modern aspects of both Eastern and Western cultures. The artist is committed to expanding the language of visual arts and creating new interpretations. His works highlight a “Neo-naturalism” humanistic perspective.

何祯祥 He Zhenxiang

A Hunanese descent born in December 1949, He is a member of China Oil Painting Society and Guangdong Artists Association, and Deputy Director of Yantian District Fine Art Institute. He graduated from Sun Yat-Sen University, majored in Chinese Language and Literature, and, in 1982, was hired by Shenzhen Art Advertising Company. Over the past forty years or so of making art, he’s participated many times in municipal, provincial and national exhibitions and won awards at them, and received recognition for his art in a good number of solo and group exhibitions. His art features subjectivity, decoration and imagery, so he pursues expressivity, lyricism and decorativeness for his work, which focuses on flat composition, large masses and broad strokes. His exploration of rhythms in art has given his work a distinctive artistic character, which reflects modernity in style and meaning.

梁桂华 Liang Guihua

Born 1965 in Guilin, Guangxi, China, Liang Guihua graduated as a major in design from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1986, and currently works and lives in Shenzhen. 梁赫伦 Liang Helun

A member of China Artists Association, a council member of Nanshan District Artists Association, deputy director of Shenzhen University Art Museum, and currently a professor at Shenzhen University. 李树仁 Li Shuren

Born and raised in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, Li Shuren currently serves as an associate professor at the School of Art and Design, Shenzhen Polytechnic, a member of China Artists Association and a council member of Shenzhen Artists Association. After graduating from the School of Art Education at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, he earned a master’s degree from the College of Art and Design at Shenzhen University. His art was exhibited in important exhibitions in China and abroad, including the Twelfth National Exhibition of Fine Arts, the 4th, 5th and 6th China · Guanlan International Print Biennials, and the 2nd and 4th China Youth Prints Exhibition, and won him a Second Prize at the 5th National Higher Art Academy Xuyuan Youth Printmaking Biennial Award, a Gold Prize at the Exhibition of Outstanding Artworks from the 13th Guangdong Art Festival, etc. His works have been collected by organizations including Guangdong Museum of Art, Fujian Art Museum, China Printmaking Museum and National Centre for the Performing Arts.

刘占磊 Liu Zhanlei

A member of Guangdong Artists Association and Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Longhua District Printmakers Association, Liu Zhanlei currently works at Longhua Luhu Foreign Language Primary School in Shenzhen.

His creation is a process of finding a balance for the expression of urban spirit, so he alternates between the microscopic world and the macroscopic one, thinking about how to rebuild the image, narrative, impression and history of a city and exploring the ways their relations change in this new age. The texture of his work is formed by chance by overlapping different color masses and mingling oily and water-based materials. Urban marks are revealed by the process of scaling off, refreshing and gluing. Every printing means a new image of the city.

龙爱科 Long Aike

Born in August, 1981, Long Aike studied at Guilin Normal College from 2000 to 2003, and now works and lives in Shenzhen. 彭星星 Peng Xingxing

曾鑫慧 Zeng Xinhui

Zeng Xinhui is currently a member of Shenzhen Artists Association, Xi’an Artists Association, Dafen Artists Association and Longgang District Artists Association, and a researcher at Shaanxi Modern Watercolour Pastel Painting Institute.

Zeng makes art mostly on the great moments of Shenzhen in urban development to commemorate its path of flourishing which is filled with efforts. Her painting puts emphasis on the expression of texture and builds itself in planar language for a manifestation. She hopes that her approach can help share her unique insights into and understanding of life.

张胜才 Zhang Shengcai

Founder of Jimei Landscape and an experienced (TV) journalist, Zhang Shengcai graduated from Qingdao Craftwork Art School in 1980. He had two solo exhibitions held in Shandong respectively in 2008 and 2018. In 2023, he participated with his traditional Chinese paintings, Glory and Hong Kong in Brilliance, in Shenzhen Clean Governance Art Exhibition and Shenzhen & Hong Kong Ink Painting and Metropolis Exchange Exhibition.
