Born in 1985, Hu Qingtai lives and works in Beijing. He graduated from the Image and Media Arts program of Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in 2008.

His practice foregrounds individual will, psychological states, and the subtle relations between self, others, and environment, while questioning authorship and epistemic authority in art. Working across text, video, painting, and installation, his work has been widely exhibited in institutional and gallery contexts.
