Gu Ying was born in Zhoushan, Zhejiang. She graduated from the Sculpture Department of China Academy of Art in 2007. She currently works and lives in Beijing. Gu Ying's practice mainly manifests through the act of painting. She employs a range of techniques and materials including the use of carbon copy paper, water-based pens, acrylics and digital illustration. Her work responds to imagery and textual landscapes she encounters in the media and daily life. Her work delves into the ways that practical environmental information-such as news, entertainment, and advertising-molds and impacts an individual's consciousness.
